» What: This page represents a survey to ascertain as to whether there is real interest in students wanting to sit a voluntary Anatomy Exam
which will hopefully be accredited by The Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSEng) and Anatomical Society of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI).
For reasons of practicality, it is most likely to be a SBA/EMQ-based assessment.
» Why: Many surveys of anatomy teaching carried out by student Surgical Societies (via The Medical School Liaison Committee, RCSEng) have shown varied levels of anatomy teaching
throughout the country's medical schools. Furthermore, the relevance and knowledge of anatomy during clinical years tends to decline. Therefore,
the MSLC in association with the ASGBI are keen to create a voluntary Anatomy Exam for medical students. This will encourage
clinical students to maintain a significant level of clinically relevant anatomy as well as provide an extra certification to prove that the individual
possesses a sound knowledge of anatomy.
» Who: UCL Surgical Society, as part of the MSLC, has opted to lead this project for the RCSEng and ASGBI. We hope to join forces with the other London-based student Surgical
Societies to pilot this exam and help the RCSEng and ASGBI acheive this great goal. If successful, this will be an exam offered by The RCSEng/ASGBI.
» The Benefits: Greater confidence and competance as a doctor. This Exam would be
beneficial to students of all career interests. In addition, a fully accredited certificate will be of high respect when applying for higher training.
» What next: What we need from you, is to complete the form below to say whether you do/don't support this idea.
** The more positive responses we have, the stronger the case we will have present to the RCSEng and ASGBI. **
