Mr Steven Tsui
UK's first total artificial heart transplant 

Consultant cardiothoracic surgeon Steven Tsui will be speaking about the operation he led on Matthew Green, the first person in the UK to receive a total artificial heart transplant. Mr Tsui led his team through training in Paris before undertaking the ground breaking surgery.
 	 
Mr Mark Koska
Inventor of the auto-disable syringe

Mr Koska has recently persuaded the Tanzanian government to become the first country in the world to move exclusively to using syringes that self-destruct after a single use, thus preventing the transmission of HIV/Aids by multiple-use of the same syringe. The World Health Organisation estimates over 1.3 million die every year as a result of the reuse of syringes.

Seven more speakers have been lined up to talk about extraordinary innovations and will be announced in the New Year.

Attendees will be progress from being taught basic suturing to teaching suturing to A level students within a day. This course is intended for those who have not yet completed UCL Surgical Society's basic suturing training. To those who complete the day successfully, certificates of competency will be issued by UCL Surgical Society and letters of thanks will be supplied by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. 5 places available Tickets: %uFFE15 each Due to the limited number of places available, would-be attendees are invited to email uczxrss@ucl.ac.uk briefly explaining why they should be granted a place. Following last year's sell-out conference, with it's unparalled programme featuring "the A-list of British surgery", we are delighted to announce that plans for NUGSC 2012 are well underway. The 2012 conference is to be held at University College London, in Central London, over the weekend of 3rd and 4th March 2012. A full programme has now been finalised, and features lectures from a variety of leading figureheads in British surgery. We will also be running our research competition, as well as 4 practicals, including last year's much-celebrated "Clinical Anatomy" by Professor Vishy Mahadevan. The 2012 conference sees the introduction of the 8 other surgical specialties of the Royal College of Surgeons, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology - with opportunities to hear from leaders in those fields. The NUGSC 2012 website and ticket sales will be launched on 15th December 2011. We are now inviting abstracts for our research competition at http://research.nugsc.com. The deadline for submissions is 21st December 2011.
